Mobile Digital Art & Creativity (mDAC) Summit 2014 is very unique event designed to cater mobile digital art enthusiasts hosted by the Mobile Art Academy located in San Francisco’s Bay Area, the hub of the digital universe. Intended for kids, parents, and teachers, the MDAC Summit will be held on August 1 to 3 at the Pacific Art League’s brand new building right in downtown Palo Alto. It will be kicked off on Friday August 1st with the grand opening of the second International Mobile Art Exhibition on Friday, August 1st featuring a juried selection of work from artists around the world
A Close Encounter with iPad Creativity Apps
With a theme "Creative Apps Meet Artistic People," the MDAC Summit will educate participants on how they can use iPad applications alongside of traditional painting materials. “The initial goal of the program is to walk the students through various art apps and techniques to get them started,” explained conference organizer, Sumit Vishwakarma.
Though the final list of apps is yet to be unveiled, Vishwakarma mentioned the following iPad tools that he frequently uses when creating and teaching art.
· ArtRage – an iPad painting app with natural painting tools such as watercolors and oil brushes. It lets you experiment with color blending on a realistic digital canvas.
· Procreate – an iPad exclusive digital illustration app with features such as true-to-life sets of inks, brushes, and pencils.
· SketchBook Pro (Android and iOS) – one of the widely used creativity apps for tablets. As featured by Verizon on their Insider Guide.
As Vishwakarma points out, using these tools may seem easy, but for those who are unfamiliar with them, it may appear impossible to navigate the apps without someone to show you how. The hope of conference organizers is that by attending the summit, attendees will get a closer encounter with a broad spectrum of digital tools through on-site instruction from an impressive list of artists and guest speakers who will be spearheading the workshops and masterclasses.
The unique exhibition and conference are attracting attention from technologists and artists alike. Jonathon Reichental, Ph. D. CIO of Palo Alto, will open the 2-day program of workshops and seminars. Conference workshop presenters include world-acclaimed artist, Susan Murtaugh, Autodesk’s ambassador for Sketchbook Pro, their popular art app which can be used on multiple mobile platforms including the iPad, to different android phones and tablets.
Opportunity To Mingle With Fellow Enthusiasts
The format of the upcoming MDAC Summit offers a collaborative learning opportunity due to its many workshops and activities, providing attendees to create their own projects. With this endeavor, they can learn and draw inspiration from their fellow artists.
For parents, this is also a great opportunity to mingle with each other and talk about the kind of activities you do with your kids in supporting their passion for the arts. Instructors and digital art teachers can exchange insights on the kind of programs they integrate into their lesson plans.
Programs for everyone !
“The program consists of two tracks,” says Sumit Viswakarma, founder of Mobile Art Academy and conference planner. “The Mobile Digital Art track focuses on creation of artwork using different art apps such as Sketchbook Pro, Art Rage and Procreate, while the Mobile Creativity track focuses on creative apps which enable you to do pretty well anything from digital sculpting (with 3D printing) to caricaturing, photo manipulation, animation and creating comic strip characters. “
“The Pacific Art League has dedicated the entire first floor of our new building to this important conference, enabling attendees to move from one track to the other depending on their interest,” explained Seth Shalet, Pacific Art League’s visionary executive director. “Conference seminars will have something for everyone of any age and artistic skill level, even for those who have never picked up a stylus or paintbrush,” he added.
“We even have a seminar led by our popular iPad instructor, Caroline Mustard, which will empower you to create and illustrate your own e-books,” said Vishwakarma, explaining that the conference has been carefully planned so the whole family can attend. “Mom can learn to paint under the watchful eyes of an expert while Dads learn to sculpt on his iPad and their son learns to draw comic characters and make them dance around on the screen,” he said, adding that each workshop and masterclass is led by an expert in that art form.
